Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries (No need to get fancy here. Whatever you have on hand works!)
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar (White sugar works best, but brown sugar gives a deeper flavor.)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (For a touch of brightness.)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (Optional, but adds a nice warm note.)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine blueberries, water, and sugar. Stir and bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the blueberries break down and the mixture thickens.
- Stir in lemon juice and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing the blueberries to extract all the juice.
- Let it cool completely before transferring to a glass jar or bottle. Store in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.
- For a thicker syrup, simmer longer. For a thinner syrup, add more water.
- Try adding a pinch of cinnamon or orange zest for extra flavor.
