There’s something about warm banana desserts that feels instantly comforting.
But these take it further.
Soft cookie dough squares with a rich banana base and a gooey center that melts as soon as you break them open. Warm, slightly sweet, and packed with that soft, bakery-style texture.

What you’ll need
• 1 cup mashed ripe bananas
• ½ cup butter (softened)
• ¾ cup brown sugar
• ¼ cup white sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 1½ cups all-purpose flour
• ½ tsp baking soda
• ½ cup chocolate chips
For the lava center:
• ½ cup chocolate spread or soft caramel
How it comes together
In a bowl, cream the butter and sugars until smooth.
Add the mashed banana, egg, and vanilla, then mix until fully combined.
Stir in the flour and baking soda to form a soft dough, then fold in the chocolate chips.
Spread half of the dough into a lined baking pan.
Add spoonfuls of chocolate spread or caramel in the center.
Cover gently with the remaining dough.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 20–25 minutes until the edges are set but the center stays soft.
The best part
Cut into a square while it’s still warm.
The center stays soft and gooey, melting into the banana cookie base for a rich, smooth bite that disappears fast.
